Our new home with Simpson Door

In June of 2021 we purchased our new home and for a little over a year now we have been diligently working away at remodeling every square foot. I actually don’t think there is a square inch that hasn’t been touched at this point.

Where do I even begin? Well, I guess from the start, so here goes. This house was a mess when we bought it. I mean a complete mess. It needed everything and after a year of working on it, we can finally see how all of our hard work is starting to pay off. I don’t know if you have ever lived in a remodel for a year but if you haven’t, I’m here to say, it takes time to really see what has been accomplished while you’re living through it. Now when I say it needed everything, it really did. First and foremost, it needed new exterior doors. The ones that were on the home originally lacked character and in a nutshell, I just didn’t like them so they had to go. I knew the house needed Simpson Doors. Why, you ask? Because we had Simspon Doors make custom exterior doors for our last home and I fell in love. I knew this house needed them too but this time they would be different.

Once again, they were able to create the exact doors I was hoping for! The quality of craftsmanship in their doors is above all the rest and the customer service I have received each time I work with them is impeccable. I am always so impressed with how knowledgeable and helpful their team is when crafting these one of a kind doors.

We replaced the existing front door with a twelve paned custom door with sidelights. The interior of the entry was so dark and this allowed not only more light into the space but the architectural detail of this door elevates the entire front exterior of the house.

The dutch door is a staple on my homes. Well, for at least two of them now and I will continue to use them on all my homes to come. They are my favorite for so many reasons but we are lucky enough to live in a climate that we can really use them for the majority of the year. We keep the top portion open most of the time because I love hearing the birds sing and the wind blowing through the trees. As I write this, I can hear my dad yelling “shut the door, what am I doing, heating the outdoors?!” This was a constant message being yelled in our house growing up but I’m all for leaving that door open as much as possible in my own home.

The back yard last June with the old back door before we installed the dutch door from Simpson Door.

We also added a dutch door to the interior of the home. This is the door that leads into our mudroom and through to the stairs to the bunk room. I wanted an interior door here for two reasons. I wanted to shut out the noise in the kitchen that you could possibly hear in the bunk room, if kiddos were upstairs sleeping. We also keep the dogs in the mudroom sometimes and I loved the idea of a dutch door serving as a gate to keep them out of the kitchen. We keep the door open most of the time and I love that it adds a little charm to this spot.

The sunroom is one of our most loved rooms in the house and we have used it more than I ever thought we would. Morning coffee is my favorite time of the day for this spot. The room used to be cold and pretty ugly but now its warm and beautiful. It feels kind of like a tree house since our backyard slopes downward and we get a perfect view of the tops of the trees from in here. We also use these doors to access the back patio and the original sliding doors were broken and so heavy that you could barely move them anyway, they had to go! Insert new Simpson Door french doors for this room and it’s barely recognizable from the original photo.

The 6th bedroom that is now our family room. Another transformation in the books thanks to the hard work of so many and these gorgeous French doors by Simpson Door. What a huge difference they made in transforming this space. One day they will lead out to a second patio area for our family but all in good time. We have made a pact that we will tackle the outside once the inside is finished and we aren’t done yet!

What a difference a door can make, am I right?!
